森の中で本を読むための小さな居場所を製作した。外部環境と「本を読む」という行為の間を取り持つ拡張された表皮のような装置である。
細い６本の支柱と薄い水平部材によって構成されており、水平板は景色を切り取るブラインドとして機能しつつ、時にお茶をのむための小さな机として、腰掛ける椅子として、上り下りのステップとして機能する。シンプルな構造のため、外から見るとその存在を見失うほど周囲に溶けこんだ印象であるが、中にいる者にとっては柔らかく包まれた感覚を覚える。また、充分な強度を持ちながらも風や利用者自身の身体の動きによって生じる「しなり」を許容する構造は、木に登っている様な心地よい揺れをもたらす。
I produced a small place in the forest just for reading books. It is a device like an extended epidermis that acts as an intermediary between the external environment and the act of "reading a book.
The simple structure consists of six thin columns and thin horizontal timbers. The horizontal boards serve as blinds to cut through the view, and sometimes as a small desk for drinking tea, a chair for sitting, or steps for climbing up and down. Its simple structure gives the impression of blending in with its surroundings to the extent that its presence is lost when viewed from the outside, but those inside feel a sense of softness and envelopment. While being strong enough, the structure reflects "deflection" caused by wind and the user's own body movements, resulting in a pleasant swaying sensation as if the user were climbing a tree.
